Sheriff: Man found dead in house fire was murdered

SEAGROVE, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Moore County Sheriff's Office is investigating a murder after a man was found dead after a house fire over the weekend.

The fire happened around 4:20 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Brewer Road near the Westmoore community.

The home was destroyed and the body of a man was found inside.

An autopsy later showed 71-year-old Elden Kitson Vanderwall had been murdered.
