FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A man was shot late Monday night in the 400 block of Crystal Drive in Fayetteville.

Police said a 49-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were sitting in a parked car when two suspects approached them and attempted to rob them.

The suspects, who were dressed in all dark clothing, had their faces covered. One was armed with a long rifle and the other with a handgun.

During the attempted robbery, the male victim struggled with one of the suspects and was shot in the leg. He was transported to Cape Fear Valley Hospital for treatment for the non-life threatening injuries.

Police have advice for anyone in a similar situation.

"Anytime somebody has a weapon, and they had a long rifle, that is something you do not want to get in a confrontation with," said Antoine Kincade with the Fayetteville Police Department, "but in a perfect world, if somebody is armed and makes demands, give them what they want."

Anyone with information concerning the shooting or the identity of the suspect(s) is asked to contact Detective M. Yount with the Fayetteville Police Department at (910) 433-1856 or Crimestoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).
