CHAPEL HILL (WTVD) -- Chapel Hill police have arrested 25-year-old Charles Anthony Rhames in connection with a fatal stabbing on Franklin Street.

It happened around 11:45 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of East Franklin Street.

When police arrived, they found 27-year-old Walter Arthur Preston suffering from a stab wound to the chest. Preston was taken to UNC Hospital, where he later died. Police did say Preston was not a student at UNC.

A witness told officials that Rhames and the victim were in an argument that escalated when Rhames pulled out a knife and began stabbing the victim.

According to officials, a witness told police that Rhames was wearing a black do-rag, blue windbreaker or hoodie and red shorts. Rhames was seen fleeing on foot towards E. Rosemary Street after the stabbing.

Authorities located and arrested Rhames in Carrboro on Saturday afternoon for first-degree murder.
