SBI investigates after man killed in Hoke County officer-involved shooting

HOKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Hoke County Sheriff's deputy is on administrative duty after shooting and killing a man.

The Hoke County Sheriff's Office said the deputy was investigating a suspicious person around Rockfish Road and 401 Business on Saturday morning.

Investigators said the deputy opened fire during an altercation with the suspect, killing 33-year-old Sandy James McCall.

Sergeant Samuel Morant has been employed with the department for more than eight years.

The SBI is investigating, which is standard procedure.
