Teen, 2 children shot in Durham
DURHAM (WTVD) -- Durham police are investigating a shooting that injured a teen and two other children late Saturday night.
Officers were sent to the 600 block of Reservoir Street around 11:22 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers found three gunshot victims, including a 16-year-old boy and two 11-year-old boys. Police said the victims were outside at the time of the shooting.
"All of a sudden I heard something go 'powpowpowpowpow!' And my daughter was talking about, 'Get down! Get down! Get down!'" shared Bernard Hattley, who was visiting his daughter near the crime scene at the time of the shooting.
One of the 11-year-old boys was shot in the stomach and was seriously injured, police said. He remains in serious condition, but is stable following surgery.
The victims' identities have not been released.
Hattley said when he finally went outside after the shots were fired, there were three bullet holes in his car. That's where he heard the victims were standing, moments before they were shot.
"I see them in the neighborhood all the time," Hattley said. "Just young, playful kids. Love to play football, like sports and stuff. All three of 'em was into sports."
Hattley told ABC11 one of the victim's parents are currently on vacation in Jamaica. He said he has tried to reach out to them on social media, but they have yet to respond to him.
