Teen injured in single-vehicle accident
Authorities say the car crashed through a fence, overturned and the impact tossed the teenage driver out of the car.

CLAYTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Authorities are investigating a single-vehicle accident that injured an 18-year-old girl Friday. Investigators said Danielle McClamb wasn't seriously hurt, but the crash did significant damage to her car.

"That car was totaled. The whole front windshield was gone. The sun roof was gone," said neighbor Jillian Letersky.

The Wilson's Mills Fire Department was the first to respond to the crash in the 500 block of Lee Road. A chief said McClamb was ejected from the car and when firefighters arrived, they found her lying on the ground right beside the car. The white car was flipped on its side, the hood ripped off and the windshield smashed in. The chief said the teen was traveling eastbound and it appears she lost control of the car, ran off the road and hit a ditch.

Investigators said McClamb crashed no more than two miles from her home. She had just left her mom's house and was headed to the beach.

"It was a really scary sight. I would hate to be in that," said Letersky.

Letersky's family has a horse farm right across the street from the crash. She said in the last couple of years she had seen similar accidents. Others have flipped over the same fence as the 18-year-old.

"Three cars have flipped over that fence," said Letersky.

There's a curve in the road nearby and Letersky said some people have a hard time navigating it.

"I guess if you're coming like 60 around that turn and you're texting and driving or something than you just go into that ditch and you go right up the other side and you flip," said Letersky.

The Highway Patrol told ABC11 McClamb did not remember anything before the crash. Troopers said speed and alcohol were not factors in the accident.

McClamb has been charged with failure to maintain lane control, but it is still unclear why she went off the road. The investigation is ongoing.

As of Saturday morning, McClamb was still at WakeMed in fair condition.
