A trooper was injured after a driver slammed into his cruiser in Lenoir County

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper was injured Sunday night while on the job in Lenoir County.

A Highway Patrol state trooper was investigating an accident on Highway 70, near La Grange Sunday, when a car slammed into his cruiser.

The Highway Patrol said Trooper Ryan Riley was investigating an accident on Highway 70, near La Grange, when a car slammed into his cruiser.

Authorities said the trooper was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was later released.

Dylan Thomas Smith, 22, of La Grange, NC, will be charged with failing to slow or change lanes for an authorized emergency vehicle on a multi-lane roadway, also referred to as the "Move Over" law. The violation is a misdemeanor for causing personal injury or property damage greater than $500.
