Troubleshooter: Woman fights for iPhone repair
A Triangle woman got in touch with ABC11 Troubleshooter Diane Wilson after taking her cell phone in for repair and it came back not working.

DUNN, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Triangle woman got in touch with ABC11 Troubleshooter Diane Wilson after taking her cell phone in for repair and it came back not working.

The receipt from Affordable Geek shows the iPhone came in working.

Their technician had Julia Byrd turn the phone on, log in to the phone, turn the phone off and log back in and she verified that the phone lit up and was in working condition.

The frustrating ordeal started back in September when Byrd took an iPhone 5 into Affordable Geek in Dunn to repair the cracked screen. She says she was told the repair would take one day. When Byrd went to pick the phone up something was wrong.

"He told me that the screen had come in, but it still wasn't ready and it had to be restored," she said.

However, that didn't happen either. Instead, Julia said there were bigger problems than a cracked screen.

"It took them nearly a month to admit that they broke the phone and that they were going to replace the phone," said Byrd.

Julia was eventually given a used iPhone from the store, but there were problems when they tried to activate it.

"We were there for probably two hours before the lady said the phone belonged to someone else and they couldn't activate it," she said.

So Affordable Geek took that phone back, and a rep said they ordered her a new iPhone 5 from the apple store and it would be in soon. However, instead of a new phone, she just got more excuses.

"Not here, not here. No tracking number, one of the technicians told me it was coming by FedEx, another told me it was coming by UPS," said Byrd.

After weeks of frustrations, Byrd turned to me and I got in touch with Affordable Geek.

That same day, Byrd didn't have a new iPhone, but instead a check for $500 to buy a new phone.

"I am happy, very happy," said Byrd. "I appreciate your help so much."

A rep with Affordable Geek said the owner had some personal issues he was dealing with while this was going on which caused some of the delays.
