Fayetteville sexual assault suspects appear in court
Two men Fayetteville police said robbed, sexually assaulted, and raped three women were captured Tuesday evening.

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Two men charged in a series of sexual assaults and robberies in Cumberland County faced a judge Wednesday afternoon.

Clifton Hayes, 27, and Cedric King, 22, face several charges including kidnapping, robbery, and rape.

Hayes stood silent as the judge told him he faces up to life in prison if convicted of the kidnapping, robbery, and sexual assaults against him.

Hayes and King were captured Tuesday night and charged in connection with three kidnapping, robbery and assault incident this past weekend.

They are accused to taking the victims to remote areas of the county, and assaulting them.

Hayes' father apologized for his son's alleged actions.

"I am sorry it happened, and I don't know how it happened," said William Hayes. "How he got convinced to do it. I apologize for it as a family member."

King also made his first court appearance Wednesday. He faces the same charges as Hayes.

Both men were assigned a public defender and remain under a $2.35 million dollars bond each. Their next court date is Jan. 13.
