Two shot in Smithfield

SMITHFIELD, NC (WTVD) -- The Smithfield Police Department says two people were wounded Sunday night when a group of men in a car started shooting after exchanging words with another group walking on Heath Avenue.

It happened just after 10 p.m.

Witnesses said three people were walking on Heath Avenue when the words were exchanged with the passing vehicle. The dark-colored car turned around and shots were fired.

One victim was shot in the back, the second in the stomach. The victim's names were not released.

Police said there were 3-4 men in the car.
