Two students at bus stop hurt in Wake County crash
RALEIGH -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol says two Rolesville High School students were hurt Monday morning when an out-of-control van hit them as they waited for their school bus.
It happened around 6:30 a.m. on Mitchell Mill Rd in Wake County.
Troopers said 32-year-old Anthony Holden of Zebulon was headed south when he ran off the road and into a ditch. The van then hit a utility pole before hitting 15-year-old Alan Aguilar and 18-year-old Alexander Aguilar, both of Zebulon.
Alan Aguilar was taken to Wake Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Alexander Aguilar was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The Wake County School System tells ABC11 Rolesville's principal visited the students at WakeMed shortly after the accident.
"I can't believe that they were hit this morning. It just breaks my heart," said neighbor Renee Van Cooney. "It makes me so sad that these kids are in their own driveway and they're not safe. This person must have been going way to fast in order to have gone off the road like that."
Holden was charged with careless and reckless driving and failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision. Investigators said they believe fatigue was a contributing factor to the collision.
