Veterans encouraged by improvement in VA wait times
FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Veterans heard some good news Friday in Fayetteville.
Officials with the VA said they have been able to trim patient wait times for primary health care from 28 days of waiting last October to just 14 days in May.
Veterans filled the room for a town hall as they worked one on one with VA specialists on various issues, such as access or benefits or appointment times.
VA officials said the wait times have been improved by the opening of several new health care facilities, such as one on Raeford Road as well as clinics around the Sandhills. And a new one is set to open June 29 in Sanford.
Critics said the problem is still accountability.
In an email statement the director of the state chapter of concerned veterans said "accountability in the VA Accountability Act of 2015, and the reforms of the new "Caring for Heroes in the 21st Century Act" are the only real solutions to the systemic problems in the VA."
