DURHAM (WTVD) -- Authorities are investigating what's believed to be human remains found in a wooded area off Slater Road Wednesday evening.

Police tell ABC11 that skeletal remains were found by surveyors at least 100 yards into the woods, not far from I-540. They said the bones may have been there for at least a year.

The remains will be sent to the medical examiner to determine a possible identity and if a crime took place.
