Woman killed when van, train collide in Mebane

MEBANE, N.C. (WTVD) -- An Amtrak train traveling through Mebane near South Fifth Street collided with a van Tuesday around 12:45 p.m.

Police said 80-year-old Doris Pinnix, of Burlington, got her Dodge Caravan stuck on the tracks between the crossing bars when the train came.

Two men apparently tried to get her out of the vehicle but said Pinnix froze up and could not move.

Pinnix was unable to get out of the car in time and was killed instantly.

No one on the train was injured.

The train affected was the westbound Piedmont 75.
