A rescued pit bull puppy is now learning to walk for the first time after life-changing surgery to correct a rare deformity.

Roscoe, a 4-month-old puppy, was born with his front legs partially bent backwards, leaving him forced to crawl on his wrists. He was given a new lease on life thanks to veterinarian David Crouch, and more than $3,000 in donations to the Asheville Humane Society in North Carolina.

He's still in casts, but Roscoe is learning to get around on his own. Crouch says seeing Roscoe tip-toe around in the casts reminds him of a tap dancer, according to ABC News.

"You kind of tap dance like Fred Astaire right now," Crouch said to the dog.

Roscoe is recovering in the care of a foster family.
