Police: 16-year-old killed, 2 critically injured in crash in Raleigh

RALEIGH, North Carolina -- Authorities say a 16-year-old is dead and two others are critically injured in a crash that shut down part of Interstate 40 in Raleigh Sunday night.

It happened around 7:22 p.m. along westbound I-40/I-440 near Rock Quarry Road.

Authorities said a driver was having a medical emergency and stopped their vehicle in the second westbound lane of I-40.

Two passengers got out of the vehicle in an attempt to help the unconscious driver, 20-year-old Bradley Templeton.

According to authorities, 16-year-old Jessica Templeton of Kenly and 16-year-old Tesla Hill of High Point were standing at the driver-side door when another driver - 45-year-old Phillip Campbell of Durham - stopped in front of the vehicle, got out of his car, and attempted to help.

During that time, a third car did not slow down and collided with the stopped vehicle, the two 16-year-olds, and Campbell.

Authorities said the stopped car did not have any headlights or hazard lights on.

Jessica Templeton and Campbell were taken to the hospital in critical condition, while Hill was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bradley Templeton, who officials said suffered a medical emergency, was not injured in the crash.

The driver that collided with them was also not injured. No charged have been filed at this time.

The incident is still under investigation.
