Counterterrorism experts to speak at Duke on terrorist threats
Experts' lecture comes ahead of President Obama unveiling details Wednesday night about new long-term battle plan against ISIS.

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Two leading counterterrorism experts will be in the Triangle Wednesday to speak on the issue of terrorist threats.

Fran Townsend, who served under President George W. Bush as assistant for Homeland Security and Daniel Benjamin, former coordinator for counterterrorism at the US State Department -- visit comes ahead of President Barack Obama 9 p.m. ET speech to discuss details about a new long-term battle plan against ISIS.

White House officials say this week's formation of a more inclusive Iraqi government, plus progress from US airstrikes, now equals a turning point.

Obama's address comes one year to the day after a primetime address on Syria's use of chemical weapons.

The White House acknowledges the President will not disclose details about the approximate cost of his plan, or how long it will last.

Meanwhile, the counterterrorism experts will speak at the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University around 5 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public.
