Gov. Pat McCrory thanks North Carolinians for passing Connect NC bond
CHARLOTTE (WTVD) -- Governor Pat McCrory is thanking North Carolina voters for approving the Connect NC bond referendum.
The governor spent the past several weeks pushing the measure, which allows the state to borrow $2 billion for state parks, community colleges, UNC, agriculture and more.
The bond sailed toward passage, with about two-thirds of voters saying yes during Tuesday's primary election.
The governor is now going around the state thanking supporters.
He began his day at the Jordan Lake state park, in Chatham County - which will benefit from the bond by getting new campgrounds.
"For taking this issue very seriously, listening to the facts, understanding the pros and cons and then saying yes," McCrory said.
McCrory said politicians put away partisan differences for the bond proposal.
"Reps and Dems working together in the state legislature! Did you hear that? Reps and Dems working together in the state legislature," he said.
Despite talking politics about the bond measure, McCrory repeatedly refused to comment on the gubernatorial race.
He and Democrat Roy Cooper handily won their party's primary elections Tuesday.
"We've got plenty of time for politics," McCrory said. "This is a time for governing. Make sure we're successful in execution."
