Former Raleigh Councilman Thomas Crowder dies of cancer
Crowder, 58, died Tuesday after a long battle with testicular cancer.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A celebration of life service will be held Saturday at the Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church for former Raleigh Councilman Thomas Crowder.

Crowder died at home Tuesday after a long battle with testicular cancer. He was 58 years old, and spent more than a decade on the city council representing southwest Raleigh.

Crowder announced back in August he had exhausted all treatment options for his cancer and asked that his wife, Kay, be appointed to finish the remainder of his term.

He eventually left the council on Sept. 24 and his wife took over his seat.

Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane, fellow city council members, and Rep. David Price were among the many people making their way to the Duke Energy Center Friday during a visitation.
