RALEIGH, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Lawmakers will seek public comment on the proposed new political maps Tuesday, as a September 1st deadline looms.

Critics are already criticizing the plan for giving Republicans a political advantage.

But Republicans say the maps are fair and legal.

Federal judges struck down nearly 30 North Carolina House and Senate districts as illegal racial gerrymanders.
