Neighbors in the Stonehenge area near Creedmoor and Sawmill roads say they heard gunshots not long after midnight on September 28.

Minutes later, police received a 911 call from a person at the house with the victim.

The unidentified caller sounds panicked saying, "He was sitting on the porch and they came up and shot him. I don't know if someone is still out here."

When the dispatcher asked him to describe the men, he relayed information from the victim saying, "It was two muggers, a black one and a white one."

He went on to say that the only information the victim had was that the men were wearing masks.

The victim was shot in the thigh and upper chest; wounds that could have been deadly but fortunately were not.

Several neighbors said there has been a rash of thefts from cars in the neighborhood recently but nothing this violent.

A neighbor who didn't want to be identified told ABC 11, "I just have this gut feeling that maybe he saw something that they didn't want him to see, and they accosted him."

That same neighbor also said, "We haven't heard anything really from the police, and I would feel better personally if I just knew what the reason was."

The victim didn't want to be identified but did speak to ABC11 by phone.

He said his recovery will require at least one more surgery.
