New research shows King Tut's ceremonial dagger may have been forged from a meteorite

New research shows the metal used to fashion one of King Tutankhamun's daggers may have come from outer space.

A team of Egyptian and Italian researchers say the iron blade was forged from a meteorite. The research also suggest the ancient Egyptians knew what they were working with.

The ceremonial dagger was found in 1925. It was one of two blades buried with the ancient pharaoh's body. Its extraterrestrial origins have long been theorized, but new technology enabled scientists to confirm the theory.

Researchers found the iron, nickel and cobalt found in the dagger matched other documented meteorites, and "strongly suggests its meteoritic origin."
