FORT BRAGG, N.C. (WTVD) -- Plans for a multi-million dollar entertainment complex on Fort Bragg are in the works.
A spokeswoman with the Dallas-based Army and Air Force Exchange Service, better known as AAFES, confirmed the North Post plans on Thursday.
Julie Mitchell said the development will include a 42,000 square foot multiplex theatre and a 40,000 square foot space for fast and casual restaurants. Mitchell said there will also be green space, a playground, and areas with a fireplace for "intimate gatherings." Entertainment acts will be able to perform in a space large enough to accommodate 700-800 people.
"I think that it would be a good way to support our troops and family members at Fort Bragg by offering them more options," said Mitchell.
The projected is slated for a summer or fall 2015 groundbreaking, with a January 2017 completion date. It's expected to cost between $21 and $23 million.
The development is currently going through AAFES finance committee approval. The plans then head to a board and Congressional approval.
