Last-minute shoppers may find super Saturday deals
The last shopping Saturday before Christmas has been dubbed Super Saturday and this year it could mean bigger deals than Black Friday.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Saturday, Dec. 20 has been dubbed Super Saturday because it is the last Saturday to shop before Christmas.

Some analysts say it is quickly turning into one of the most important shopping days of the year for retailers as last-minute shoppers like Nicole Richardson head out in search of gifts.

"I have not started shopping because of money and time, and I'm working too," explained Richardson.

However, by putting off shopping until Super Saturday, Richardson could end up finding better deals.

"Retailers know this and they are setting up holiday promotions and special sales, expedited shipping," said Christie Burris, spokesperson for the NC Retail Merchants Association.

"They're going to be ready for you to come in and cross off that list. The end of the year, as we all know, is when they go from the red to the black, so they all want to make sure they get all the sales they can and they're competing with one another," she said.

According to dealnews.com, Black Friday sales dropped nearly 7 percent this year because so many stores opened on Thanksgiving. So, this year, Super Saturday sales are even more important to retailers, with some analysts predicting it will edge out Black Friday as the top sales day of the year-in store and online.

"One of the things I've noticed is they're offering free shipping if you continue to shop through Saturday," said Burris. "Another thing they're offering this year a lot of retailers are offering purchase online, pick-up in store."
