Creating a registry is growing in popularity for college students.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Creating a registry for a wedding or a baby on the way is a popular way to let friends and family choose needed items as gifts, and it's now quickly growing in popularity for college students.

NC State Junior, Noor Baloch says she wishes the idea was around when she left for school a few years ago.

"I think if you're having a graduation party or something it's cool to let people know these are the things you need instead of giving you money or stuff," Baloch Said.

She also points out, all the small items add up quickly to bust a budget.

"Bedding is really expensive, then you have to get something for your desk," Baloch said. "New hangers and stuff that you're going to have to get, stuff you're going to have to get for the bathroom-

they start adding up. Things you don't think about."

Retailers including Target, Bed, Bath, & Beyond, and The Container Store all have college registries where students can add items they can use for the move to a university.

There's also some online sites dedicated to the service including DormCo.com and DormSmart.com.
