Online program helps parents save money on clothing while giving a portion of sales back to schools.

Fundraising is something school principals like Dr. Sandy Chambers know very well.

"Elementary schools can really only do one fundraiser," Chambers explained. "And that's usually selling school pictures."

The PTA helps a great deal, but, Brier Creek Elementary also does something else to add to the schools funding by registering with the shopping site, Schoola.com.

Parents can send in gently-worn clothing in a postage-paid bag to be sold on the Schoola.com site for major discounts - with a large portion going back to schools across the nation.

"We need extra money, said Chambers. "The state only gives us about $48 per child. So, yes, were lacking in funds."

Schools register on the site and shoppers can designate where their proceeds should go upon checkout through the school zip code. Each school gets 40 percent of the proceeds.

Dr. Chambers said it is money that can be allocated for many programs throughout the year.

"It's really a great opportunity for us to earn some extra money," she said. "Of course, we would use that money to provide support for our children. Things pop up all the time throughout the year."

And, as a parent of two, Schoola.com also goes a long way in helping Dr. Chambers stretch out her own kids clothing budget - citing prices up to 70 percent off retail.

"I was looking last night," she said. "And, I could get a pair of pants for my daughter, some skinny jeans for $8. And, they are name brand that would normally cost $30 or $40 dollars. It's a win-win. Very smart."
