Simple ways to make some extra cash for holiday shopping
From Facebook to Amazon, ABC11 finds some creative ways to help you stretch your holiday budget.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Need some extra cash for the holidays? Buying for all those people can break many budgets.

But, there are a few things you can do to help add some holiday cheer to your bottom line.

How about trading in items around your house you no longer use?

Amazon.com has a trade-in program that allows you to trade in old books, music, electronics, and video games for Amazon gift card credit. The credit gets applied to your account, and you can shop for anything on Amazon. You search on Amazon's site for items wanted or list your items. If it's accepted, you print pre-paid labels and mail in the items. Once the items are accepted, Amazon credits are deposited into your shopping account.

You can also try using Facebook for more than just status updates.

There are many groups you can join in your city to sell, swap, or search for wanted items. Raleigh Yard Sale, Raleigh Area Swap and Shop, and Raleigh Area Buy Sell Trade Free, are just a few of the groups that came up in a quick Facebook search. There are dozens more for nearly every city.

Pinterest is also another tool that could help you find a way to make holiday cash. Just type 'make holiday cash' in the search bar and you'll find dozens of sites and ideas to spark your earning creativity.

And, we've mentioned it before, but, it's worth a mention again. There are a few consignment stores that pay you cash on the spot for your gently used items including clothing and kids toys and gear. Plato's Closet takes men and women's items. Kid to Kid and Once Upon a Child also buy children's items. There is also Edward McKay in Raleigh and Fayetteville to turn your old books, electronics, or DVDs into cash or store credit.
