It's that time of year when millions do some extra shopping for the holidays. The shopping season is an important one for retailers to put them in the black or profitable zone, so, the deals are abundant.

But, if braving crowds for doorbusters isn't for you, Kyle James, the founder of rather-be-shopping.com says there are plenty of deals online.

"What I recommend doing is, Black Fri morning, instead of going to the stores, go to the websites of those retailers," explained James. "A lot of times they are going to have the same deals on their websites that they are going to have in store."

Kyle says compare your gift buying list to the Black Friday ads to whittle down your store visits if you are heading out to shop. He has his own list of smart and stupid Black Friday buys to get the most bang for your buck.

On the stupid list: name brand televisions, and large appliances and fitness equipment which Kyle says will be marked down in January. For popular toys, waiting a few weeks could help you save.

"We always see the best deals," he said. "The best coupons come out the two weeks leading up to Christmas. So, if you can wait, you're going to be better served."

Kyle points out, you could run the risk of not getting the item and for that, he advises you check eBay where many sell their doorbuster items.

He also points out, in some cases, shopping before or after Black Friday can help you avoid crowds, as long as the retailer will honor a price adjustment.

"Instead of going to the aisle looking for it, you can go to customer service with your receipt and get the Black Fri price without having to fight the crowd," he explained.

Small kitchen items make the list of smart Black Friday buys.

"Pots and pans, you'll see some really good deals," he said. "Small appliances like irons, coffee makers, toasters, and blenders, those are always a really good deal for Black Friday."

"Third tier or non-brand-name TVs are also on Kyle's smart buy list. But, he warns buyers to know what they are getting. As for apparel, out of season is the key on Black Friday, to stock up for next year.

"Typically, out-of-season apparel is 75-80% off the original price, and so, that's a really good deal on Black Friday."
