Back-to-school givaway in Durham
The Durham County Republican party held a back-to-school giveaway at the Salvation Army.

DURHAM (WTVD) -- The Durham County Republican Party helped students from the Boys and Girls Club on Saturday get ready for the new school year.

They held a back-to-school giveaway at the Salvation Army, handing out backpacks, school supplies, bikes, and stuffed animals. These were donations that came from members of the community.

And it was a community event full of music, games, and even having the kids learn some acting tips.

The organizers of the event, the Black Republican Committee, said they wanted to help the students prepare mentally and emotionally for the new school year.

Kids could also get a free hair cut while they were there.

Organizers said that they wanted to keep the event free from politics, instead focusing on reaching out to the community to show their support.
