Server surprised with $1,000 tip
A 19-year-old restaurant server says he's still reeling after a customer left him a $1,000 tip.

FRANKFORT, Ill. -- A 19-year-old restaurant server says he's still reeling after a customer left him a $1,000 tip.

"My jaw dropped. I couldn't do anything. I was in shock," said Brendan Motill, who had just recently started working at the Smokey Barque BBQ in south suburban Frankfort.

On a slow day he was chatting with a customer about life. After the man left, Motill realized he'd left the huge tip along with a note.

"The note said, like, 'I don't know what your hopes and dreams are but I hope this helps you accomplish it.' I tried to go out there and he was gone," Motill said.

The note went on to say: "My hope is that people were more peaceful to each other. The world can be so negative and violent I commit random acts of kindness so others know there can be another way. Peace be with you brother!"

Motill plans to use the money for college. He said he wants to pursue a career in accounting.
