Volunteers head to SC
Local volunteers went to South Carolina to help the flood victims

SOUTH CAROLINA (WTVD) -- Heavy rain returned to parts of South Carolina Saturday as thousands continue digging out and cleaning up from last weekend's disastrous flooding. Rivers are already swollen with storm water. There was, yet again, more flash flooding and cars were stranded in the streets.

Some of our local organizations are also helping in the disaster recovery efforts.

The Triangle Chapter of the American Red Cross have sent down 49 volunteers from to work in shelters.

The North Carolina Baptist Men were asked to come set up a mobile kitchen just so flood survivors would be able to have a hot meal. Gaylon Moss, from Cary, immediately answered the call.

"When I drove here, there was quite a bit of water in some of the basins," said Moss.

He plans on spending about a week serving food to folks in need.

"The main goal with this kitchen is to serve a three-counties area, and so it still remains to be seen just how much damage is around," Moss said. "We're going to do our best to assist in any way possible."

Other volunteers from this same group have been in South Carolina for days. They've been cleaning and helping to rebuild. The Baptist Men have been removing drenched drywall and hardwood floors that have buckled inside water-logged homes.

Volunteers are not only doing physical labor, but also spiritual. Many are praying with the victims trying to offer some hope and relief during these trying times.
