San Francisco man who's been to every Super Bowl excited for SB50
SAN FRANCISCO -- Thousands of football fans have descended on the Bay Area for the Super Bowl, but there are only a few who can be considered super fans.
When Super Bowl 50 finally kicks off at Levis' Stadium on Sunday, there's going to be three fans in the stands who have been to every single game. Among them is one is a retired city administrator from San Francisco who can't wait to show visitors how the Bay Area does football proud.
Larry Jacobson, 76, was one of the first Super Bowl volunteers to check out his official uniform. "I'm ready to get to work right now," he said.
Jacobson is spending this week helping tourists find their way around San Francisco, but Sunday he'll be at Levi's Stadium watching the game with a very exclusive club.
When asked how many original members made up "Never Miss a Super Bowl" he said five and now they're down to three.
Jacobson started as a die-hard San Francisco 49ers fan. He's had season tickets for 63 years. Then, in 1967 he decided to take a date to Los Angeles to see the first Super Bowl. "It was a $100 investment including tickets and airfare and rent a car and food, but she wasn't impressed with football and she wasn't impressed with me," he said.
Jacobson gave up on the woman, but not the game and he developed a special talent. "As anybody who knows me knows, I don't know a thing about football, I know how to get tickets, so that's my thing," he said.
Now, 50 years later Jacobson's house is full of Super Bowl memorabilia, including the first official Super Bowl 50 ball handed to him straight off the press at the factory in Ohio with his name on it.
Jacobson first met the other men who had never missed a Super Bowl 16 years ago. Now, they get together and swap stories every year.
When told Super Bowl 50 would be a good time to wrap it up Jacobson said: "Well now, the NFL is treating us so well for Super bowl 50, I'm now aiming for 100."
