DURHAM (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Central University men's basketball team showed its support for Chancellor Debra Saunders-White on Monday night, wearing white warm-up shirts honoring the school leader, who is fighting kidney cancer.

The Eagles were down at halftime to Hampton, but fought back and lost a heartbreaker, 80-79.

Despite the defeat, the Eagles knew there were more important things at stake.

"(Coach LeVelle Moton's) main thing was, today was all about how hard our chancellor has fought, do something bigger than basketball," Pat Cole, who scored 28 points, told the Herald-Sun. "She's fighting for her life, and she's still running this university. That's what I feel like that message got through to everyone today."
