UNC assistant football coach resigns
An assistant football coach at UNC-Chapel Hill arrested early Monday morning in Durham County has resigned.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- An assistant football coach at UNC-Chapel Hill arrested early Monday morning in Durham County has resigned.

Gerald McRath is charged with DWI.

He's a graduate assistant football coach on Larry Fedora's staff.

Police said the 28-year-old was asleep at the wheel of his running car on the Chapel Hill Boulevard Service Road.

McRath released a statement which read: "I apologize for my actions and for bringing negative publicity and attention to the University of North Carolina and the football program. I have decided to resign my position as a graduate assistant coach at UNC and move forward with my career."
