CHAPEL HILL, NC (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Tar Heel football team put recent scandals aside to beat FCS Liberty University on Saturday 56-29. Their reward, a bump to #21 in the newly released AP Poll and a #23 ranking in the Amway/USA Today Coaches Poll.

The Tar Heels were the preseason #23 team in both polls.

UNC (1-0) forced six turnovers against Liberty, the most since 2009. Three of them came during a third-quarter frenzy that saw UNC score four touchdowns in less than 5-minutes. Sophomore defensive back Dominquie Green, who recovered three fumbles, was named ACC Co-Defensive Back of The Week.

Only 3 ACC teams are ranked in both the Coaches Poll and AP Poll after Week #1; Florida State, North Carolina and Clemson. Louisville is ranked #25 in the AP Poll.

North Carolina plays San Diego State on Saturday (8pm - ESPNEWS). The Tar Heels will wear Carolina Blue and black uniforms and are encouraging fans to wear Carolina Blue and black in a game billed as the "Kenan Stadium Tar Pit Stripe Out."
