Overturned tractor trailer shuts down highway in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY (WTVD) -- An accident shut down part of US-1 early Thursday morning.

The crash happened just after 4:30 a.m. in Franklin County at the intersection of Bert Winston Road, which is between Franklinton and Youngsville, when a tractor trailer overturned.

Images from Chopper11 HD showed a tandem Rooms To Go truck on its side in the roadway.

Troopers said the truck driver was headed away from Raleigh when he lost control and ran off the road. He was not hurt, but was charged with failure to maintain his lane.

The road reopened just after 9 a.m.
