Parents in Holly Springs are concerned about the traffic during school dismissal

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. (WTVD) -- A parent at Holly Springs High School tipped off ABC11 about a problem she thinks is going to get someone hurt.

By anyone's measure, the traffic outside of Holly Springs High School at the end of the school day is a mess. Before the final bell rings, car-pool traffic is backed up onto Cass Holt Road.

Some drivers line up in the left turn lane, while others block the travel lane on the other side of the high school entrance. And, people just passing through attempt to dodge all of them.

Wake School officials say the principal is working with law enforcement to come up with a solution.

Beginning next school year, there will be a new traffic pattern in place for students leaving in their own cars, which should alleviate some of the congestion.

But, any long-term traffic pattern changes outside the school will have to be coordinated between Holly Springs officials and the Department of Transportation.
