Crash knocks out power on US-401 near US-70 in Garner

GARNER (WTVD) -- An accident knocked out power, and blocked part of U.S. 401, near U.S. 70 in Garner for hours Thursday.

It happened around 4 a.m. at the intersection of Hwy 401 and Mechanical Boulevard.

Authorities said a pick-up truck struck a utility pole, causing power lines to fall and lay across the roadway at that intersection.

Two people inside the car were taken to WakeMed in unknown condition. Details surrounding the accident have not been released.

The roadway was closed for several hours as power crews worked to remove the downed lines and clear the wreckage.

At least 850 people were without power in the area after the incident.
