RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The N.C. Department of Transportation believes next week is when the I-40 project will start to rear its ugly head.
The DOT said it will be shifting and reducing two miles of lanes on I-40 East from Lake Wheeler to Hammond roads.
The shift will start late next week if the weather doesn't interfere.
The DOT is upgrading eight miles of I-40 south of Raleigh. The DOT has been warning of the construction for a couple of years.
This project, especially with these lane reductions, is going to produce massive backups.
