RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A truck lost part of its load on Interstate 40 eastbound at Gorman Street late Wednesday afternoon, which had drivers seeing red - literally.

Iron oxide spilled from a truck and onto the right lane of the roadway causing a long red stain on the pavement.

Traffic was backed up in the area for more than a mile at the height of rush hour.

Late Wednesday night, crews reduced the highway to one lane as they began to clean up the chemical.
