Railroad work closes Cary streets
Some drivers say the outcome will make these delays worth it.

CARY, NC (WTVD) -- CSX crews are improving the railroad crossing and tracks in Cary and that will result in traffic delays throughout the western part of town and downtown.

Paula Davis frequents Cary and has seen the congestion.

"Some of them of them don't even realize that it's closed," Davis said, adding that drivers are having to turn around. "That's a problem."

In addition, if you ride C-Tran buses, prepare for minor delays along Routes 1, 2 and 4.

Here are the areas that will be most impacted:

- Southwest Maynard road between West Chatham Street to Old Apex road

- High House Road between Old Apex Road and West Chatham Street.

- Old Apex Road between Murphy Drive and Falcone Parkway.

If you're coming from the west, south or north, you should take Cary Parkway or Maynard Road. If you're coming from the east, you should follow Chapel Hill Road or East Chatham Street to Maynard Road.

Some drivers say the outcome will make these delays worth it.

"I think it will definitely help," said driver Chris Jones. "Crossing the railroad tracks is always something everyone slows down for. If they can level that out, maybe that will be a good benefit for us."

If work on the railroad crossings goes as planned, High House Road should be opened Tuesday. Maynard Road should be open Wednesday. Police are asking you be patient and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.
