Police: Driver in Raleigh crash took Xanax, drank beers
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A serious crash in East Raleigh late Wednesday left several people - including five children - injured, authorities said.
It happened at Southall Road and Amberfield Way between New Hope and Buffaloe roads.
A 2000 Jeep and a full-sized 2007 Ford pickup collided head-on.
Police say the 18-year-old driver of the Jeep, identified as Bryce Burns, swerved into oncoming traffic. They say Burns confessed at the scene to taking a Xanax and drinking three beers.
Police also noted that Burns, of Raleigh, was traveling at 50 mph, which is 15 mph over the posted speed limit.
There's no information about Burns' condition, but he's expected to be charged with DWI when he's released from WakeMed.

Operator: Is he awake?
Caller: No he is slumped over
Operator: Is he breathing?
Caller: He is not breathing, well, he's moving, he's moving.
Operator: IF he's moving don't touch him. Just tell him to stay very still.
Caller: He is really bleeding.
A neighbor of the victims told ABC11 the Raleigh family is recovering from broken bones at a relative's home.
"That's a great concern to me and it should be a great concern to everyone that place not only the individuals life in jeopardy but other people's lives in jeopardy," said neighbor Thomas Langston.
The driver of the Ford was ticketed for expired tags and for not having her children in a seat belt.
The crash remains under investigation.
