Debris on dark interstate causes dozens of flat tires

BUTNER (WTVD) -- A huge mess left dozens of drivers stranded along a major interstate in the Triangle late Wednesday night.

Authorities said a green SUV pulling a trailer along Interstate 85 near mile marker 190 in Butner, somehow spilled metal material all over the road and kept driving.

Drivers suffered at least 25 flat tires, and one truck driver suffered a ruptured fuel tank because of the mess.

Authorities are currently searching for the SUV. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Highway Patrol.
