CARY -- Hungry people filled downtown Cary Sunday evening to sample everything the Cary Chowdown had to offer.

Twenty-seven food trucks lined Chatham Street, serving everything from savory barbecue to sweet treats.

Jack Hoover got to try baklava for the first time with his big sister.

"Since a long time ago I've always wanted to eat baklava and this is the chance I finally got to," Jack said.

It was everything he imagined it would be.

Town of Cary leaders said these food truck events are getting more and more popular. They believe it's great way for people to discover or even rediscover downtown Cary.

"Hopefully people come back and buy more things and spruce up the economy and keep things going," said Lyman Collins, the Cultural Arts manager town of Cary.

Rebecca Chatham, the owner of the local shop Annie's Attic, loves the exposure the event provides.

"Even if someone comes in and they're not looking to purchase today they still discover my shop which is wonderful," she said. "And they see we have a lot to offer."

The Cary Chowdown runs from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
