SANFORD, N.C. (WTVD) -- An intense storm left a trail of damage in Sanford Wednesday.

Allen Holsopple said he and his wife were inside when the storm hit. All he heard was a big thud, as a huge tree in his front yard crashed down, just clipping the side of his house.

Holsopple said he didn't realize what had happened until he went outside.

"I went to the side door, and I said something looks different! So I came around to the front of the house, as my wife went out the side door and said, 'Oh my God the tree!' I came out and found the tree laying there."

The storm caused damage mainly in the Jonesboro section of Sanford. A wind gust blew part of the roof off a restaurant on Horner Boulevard. None of the customers and workers inside at the time were hurt.

Wind gusts also brought down power lines, and blew part of the roof off another Sanford business.

Elsewhere in the neighborhood, yards were littered with broken tree limbs, twigs, and debris.

One resident Sheila Joyner said it was a scary few minutes.

"My trees were blowing and I was sitting at the window, cause I got three big trees around my house and I was afraid one of those would fall, and I said, 'If that tree falls. I am running!'"

Emergency officials said there were no reported injuries from the storm.

Nonetheless, Holsopple and his wife are spending the night at a local motel after power crews shut off the electricity to their home as a precaution.
