Granville County community helps tornado survivors

GRANVILLE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- People in Granville County are providing some much needed help to the survivors of an EF-2 tornado that touched down on Wednesday, causing severe damage.
Friends and family removed precious items from Ann Barnes' home on Friday. She and her husband built their house in 1957. Recovered among the nostalgia was a typewriter, a toy boat, and her son Waverly's little red chair.
"That was mine when I was a baby," Waverly said. "Boyhood, childhood memories."
Neighbors are also chipping in to help the family. Wayne Overton from NC Baptist Men has been helping with the clean-up since Thursday. On Monday, Overton says more members of the faith-based group will come here to help the Barnes family rebuild.
"We never know what Lord's [going to] do to us or for us," Overton said. "Sometimes good things come out of bad things."
Jason Reynolds said faith leads him to help too. His team with Jenkins Restoration are working nonstop.
"We'll be here until the end," Reynolds proclaimed.
NC Methodist Men will arrive Saturday to hold what they call a "work day." It's an effort that focuses on assessing survivors needs and then assisting with rebuilding and recovery.
The Department of Agriculture and the Forest Service is also in the community helping with storm damage clean-up.
