Fall Begins Tomorrow!

Isolated thunderstorms developed this afternoon, but will fade quickly this evening. There was a weak boundary driven southward by the counterclockwise spin around Jose. This will result in slightly drier air pushing into the area for tonight and tomorrow. Therefore, there should not be a repeat of today's shower and thunderstorm activity.

However, the air will stay quite warm through the weekend and well into next week. But humidity will be a bit more tolerable over the weekend. Look for lots of sun and highs in the mid and upper 80s and lows in the 60s through the weekend.

Just as the swells from Jose have diminished at the beaches, new swells from Maria will begin to impact the beaches Friday and especially this weekend. Maria is expected to take a very similar path to Jose early next week, so there won't be any impact on the weather here in central North Carolina. But, we need to keep a close eye on the beaches, especially the Outer Banks.

Beyond Puerto Rico, Maria will have a direct hit on parts of the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos to end the week. After causing devastation and great risk to lives in Puerto Rico on Wednesday and damage in the Dominican Republic on Thursday, Maria will threaten the smaller islands farther to the north on Friday and Saturday. How severe impacts are in the Turks and Caicos and the southeastern Bahamas from Maria will depend on how much the storm restrengthens and how close the hurricane tracks. As soon as Maria moved away from Puerto Rico and Hispaniola, the hurricane strengthened once again. Maria was close to Category 4 status as of Thursday evening Major damage and great risk to lives is likely in the Turks and Caicos from high winds, heavy seas and torrential rain. Inundation and wind damage could approach that of Irma from about two weeks earlier. Damage to infrastructure, beaches and dwellings from Irma will make these islands very vulnerable. Wind gusts of 80-100 mph are likely in the Turks and Caicos with rainfall averaging 4-8 inches.

Have a great evening!

Chris
