FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A lightning strike started a large house fire in Fayetteville and displaced five people on Sunday.

Officials said it happened around 5:25 p.m. at a home on Dowfield Drive, in the Hillendale neighborhood.

Firefighters said they saw heavy fire visible from the roof. They were able to contain the fire to the attic and roof, but the smoke and flames had already caused damage to the house.

Five people were evacuated from the house, and no injuries were reported.

Family members are assisting those displaced by the fire. The Red Cross was not needed.

Officials determined lightning as the cause of the fire, and estimated the damage to be around $15,000.
