RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- An upper-level trough and its attendant surface cold front are swinging by to our north this evening. Most of the shower and thunderstorm activity will remain to our north, but its just close enough to mention a shower or two and perhaps a little drizzle across the area tonight.

A weak short-wave ridge will be moving east across the Carolinas on Thursday. The result will be subsidence and a much sunnier day tomorrow. The mid and low-level part of this air mass will be warm enough to support afternoon temperatures in the middle and upper 80s. With the ground being as dry as it temperatures will take a run at 90 in the warmer spots around the Triangle.

The next cold front will be approaching the Mississippi Valley tomorrow and should be cresting the Appalachians Friday.

If this front is a little slower in its eastward movement, temperatures will be 3-5 degrees higher than we are currently projecting. There will be a few scattered showers and thunderstorms later Friday into Friday night as this cold front moves east across central and eastern North Carolina. However, the expected height falls and low-level moisture will not

be all that great, so the odds of significant rain with this frontal passage are not that high. The last time we had a good, soaking rain was late March, nearly 3 weeks ago; we would welcome a good soaker with the growing season now underway.

Saturday is likely to be a dry day, then a wave of low pressure headed our way Sunday may bring us some of that rain that we are looking for. It will also bring back highs in the 60s.

Have a great evening!
