RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- First Alert: A Frost Advisory has been issued for Tuesday from 3am to 8am for Mecklenburg County VA and Northampton County NC. Some frost will also be possible in the usual colder spots tonight particularly north and west of the Triangle.

High pressure now centered over the Mississippi Valley will drift east tonight, settling over the western Carolinas by dawn tomorrow. As skies clear tonight, temperatures will cool into the upper 30s over most of the area with some of the normally colder spots dipping to the mid 30s along with patchy frost. So those living in the traditionally colder spots will have to cover tender plants of move them indoors to protect against any frost which could from later tonight.

This high will drift off the east coast tomorrow, setting us up for a nice rebound in temperatures tomorrow afternoon. A southwest flow at the surface and sunshine should combine to boost highs a few degrees above the computer generated numbers, likely reaching the middle 70s.

Although we did have a bit of rain Sunday, it was not nearly enough to bring the monthly total up to near normal. In fact, the airport is resting at just under an inch (0.93) for the month which is well below the normal month-to-date total of 2.49 inches. Although we will have some opportunities for rain this week, none appear strong enough to erase much of the current April deficit.

The first opportunity for rain will be Wednesday as a weak cold front passes by to the north. While there will be some height falls as this front moves by, the soundings are lacking much moisture, so the most we can hope for are a few scattered light showers, mainly Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Sunshine and pleasant weather will be the rule both Thursday and Friday, with daily highs around 70 and overnight lows in the upper 40s. The next chance for rain is Saturday with a weakening cold front. This system does not appear to have much potential either as heights are actually rising as this front approaches from the west during the day Saturday.

Have a nice evening!
